Refurbishment of 11 Air Handlers

Semper Fidelis Construction & Development is performing air handling unit refurbishment services for the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, a fully occupied hospital facility that will remain operational throughout construction. The project involves refurbishing 11 air handling units across the Taylor and Damen buildings, serving critical areas including outpatient clinics, dialysis, respiratory and blood labs, and research space. Work includes reinforcing and resurfacing corroded chamber walls and condensate pans, applying low-temperature self-leveling epoxy and fire barrier coatings in compliance with NFPA 90A, and applying antimicrobial and corrosion-resistant topcoats throughout each unit's interior.

 

Our team is performing coil cleaning and refurbishment for each AHU, along with confirmation and testing of existing drains and traps to ensure proper drainage prior to recommissioning. All work is being performed after normal business hours and on weekends to avoid disrupting hospital operations and patient care, with units returned to full operable status before the start of each business day. The project is being executed in close coordination with the VA's Contracting Officer's Representative, with a detailed installation report generated for each unit upon completion in accordance with VA facility security, safety, and infection control requirements.
